After completing my arts education in England, I had the good fortune as a teenager to live in Burma and some years later in Egypt and Italy. My travels led to a fascination with woven tapestries because, apart from serving a practical purpose and providing an outlet for artistic expression, they can also make personal or political statements and reflect history. My tapestries were exhibited nationally and internationally. I was later inspired by the paintings of Gordon Smith, particularly his interpretations of landscapes. Consequently, after investigating the effects of extreme weather patterns, I produced a series of paintings that illustrates their impact on forests. In 2008, I graduated from Emily Carr University and created a new series of paintings that explore reflected images of trees and bull-rushes on a moving water surface. I utilized a texture comprised of gesso and acrylic paint to form a multilayered surface of glazed patterns that reflect water and sky.
