Annette Labedzki
After attending Emily Carr University of Art and Design and the University of British Columbia, I decided to make a significant change from my previous figurative work to a more personal, intuitive and almost exclusively abstract figurative action painting. The option to return does not exist. What is done is irreversible. This method of working requires courage; there is nowhere to hide. Everything is instant and final. Each line, color, composition and moment of intuition will influence the next move until the complete artwork emerges. Speed forces me to remain honest. There is no time for contemplation. As a result, the work captures a true “instant” of space and time.
I received my BFA at Emily Carr and spent another year studying philosophy at UBC. I have received numerous awards and my work is in collections all over the world.
