Billy Wittmann
My work focuses on handbuilt sculptures finished with the Japanese technique of raku firing. My deep appreciation of the West Coast is reflected in the way I combine pottery with the natural elements found in nature.
I was born in Minden, Germany. Although formally educated as a physical education teacher, I have a passion for art and exotic cultures. I took night classes in art and potter and later followed my childhood dream to work in Africa. Although I’ve taken workshops at Emily Carr, Malaspina College, Langara College and in San Miguel de Allende, I am essentially self-taught. My work has been exhibited in Vancouver, Edmonton, Steveston and Whitehorse. I have given workshops in Fort Smith, North West Territories, and in Edmonton..
