Camille Sleeman
My art expresses the differences and connections that exist between natural and man-made landscapes. Immersing myself in landscape, I look for order and disorder and how they play together, and I closely examine details that describe the whole of the surrounding environment. In 2009, VanDusen Gardens became my muse as I observed the influence of nature on this cultivated gem centered in the urban environment. The resulting series consists of pastel and conté plein air drawings, and paintings completed in my studio.
My love of both landscape and art led to studies in environment, design and painting. My formal study includes a diploma in Interior Design, studies in Urban Planning in London, England, a degree in Landscape Architecture from UBC, and a Certificate in Fine Art Technique from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. In 2007, I made painting my full-time profession. My work is owned by private collectors and has been shown at local galleries and cafes.
