Sometimes, when traveling by bus or train, while my eyes wander over fast passing landscapes, I lock into a scene that intrigues me, like a whisper of a story, making me curious to learn the full account. I have been traveling like this all my life, collecting images that one day I would investigate further. Revisiting these images later, I used them as motifs for a series of watercolour paintings that illustrates a year in atmospheric emotion, titled, “On Moving."
The watercolour tradition has evolved from two directions: in the West, carefully built up layers make up the final image, while in the East, bold and Zen-like brushstrokes prevail. Although I have received my formal art education in The Netherlands, I am most excited by the Eastern tradition. I am a long-term participant of Artists in Our Midst.
