Claudie Azoulai
I am a fibre artist working primarily in hand-felted wool. As a teacher in Vancouver public schools for the past 25 years, I have had the opportunity to experiment with a variety of media projects, while teaching children and giving workshops. Playing with fleece, and creating a colour palette by dyeing it into a wide range of colours, has been my first inspiration. Big skies, landscapes and portraits have been ongoing themes to which I gravitate. My most recent creations have been hand-felted portraits.
Born in Egypt, I came from a Middle Eastern background. My family moved to Montreal in 1956 in the aftermath of political unrest. I graduated from McGill University where I received a degree in Education, and continued my studies through Fine Arts at Concordia University. I have lived in British Columbia since 1979 and have established roots here with my husband and two children.
