Jennifer Mitton
This year I have had an exciting time returning to watercolour for solo and group shows with still life and figurative themes. I am also continuing my exploration of groups of figures in motion by using a mixture of opaque and transparent acrylic. As always, my priority is to capture what I like to call the essential gesture of my subject.
My training was atelier style in France and the US with Ted Seth Jacobs and Tony Ryder. Closer to home, I have completed programs in contemporary methods of printmaking, painting and drawing at Emily Carr University of Art and Design and the University of British Columbia. I am always learning from other artists and illustrators, many of them local, such as fellow members of Vancouver’s own life-drawing studio, Basic Inquiry, and the Federation of Canadian Artists. When I am not painting, I am writing and performing stand-up comedy about the sexy but disgraceful subject of mental illness and writing stories and books; Fadimatu, Sleeping With the Insane, and Bonjour Minuit.
