Lisa Gardner
My art has been influenced by eastern and western sources as I pursue the qualities of simplicity, spontaneity and gesture. My images reflect a love of my natural surroundings. Over time, I became attracted to the expressive qualities of oriental brush and ink, and I sought training with artist and Master Ari Tomita, and artist, Yuk Man Lai. My work is influenced by the oriental concept of chi, which is what gives a painting its spirit, its mysterious quality, and its uniqueness.
I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1986 and studied painting and drawing at the Ottawa School of Art and the Art Gallery of Ontario. In 1991, while studying in the Fine Arts Studio program at the University of Guelph, I was among the winners of a juried exhibition. I have a B.Ed. from the University of British Columbia and have taught art and photography, both publicly and privately.
