My mixed-media art practice explores mythological and spiritual ideas. I begin with a wood surface and apply a colour wash, which sometimes brings out the wood grain and also provides a compositional foundation. Then I build up layers of images, organic materials, paper, and fabric. Creating these pieces are meditations for me and I hope that my energy will connect with the viewer. My current series includes the four directions, the seven days of the week, the seven chakras and the 78 tarot cards, which is a work in progress. For me, the seven Unitarian principles were the most challenging.
Long ago, I took a B.Ed. at the University of British Columbia. The instructor for the required art education course encouraged me to major in Art Education. After that, however, I spent several decades working in adult education, organizational consulting and non-profit management. Now I am bringing my interest in art and creativity together with my facilitation skills through a team-building program called “Just Scribble.”
