Who we are

Artists in Our Midst is a collective of over 70 artists from the communities of West Point Grey, Kitsilano, and Dunbar/Kerrisdale in Vancouver, BC. On the Thursday evening preceding each weekend, a preview exhibition is held at the locations listed. On the Saturday and Sunday following each show, participating artists in their respective neighborhoods will open their home studios to the public, where visitors will be able to see more of their work, talk with artists and purchase their work.

History

At the end of January 1993 artists Anne Adams and Pnina Granirer put out a call to the artists living in the Point Grey area for participation in a weekend of open studios. Since then, over 70 artists in the three neighbourhoods of Dunbar/Kerrisdale, Kitsilano and West Point Grey have shared their art with their neighbours, thus creating a sense of community.

This event is all about sharing resources, talent and good work, as well as giving something back to the neighbourhood. We are extremely thankful for the generous support of all the merchants who display our works of art in their windows, thus tranforming our streets into art galleries. Over the years we have developed a long list of sponsors, supporters and volunteers who generously contribute to the success of this event and are true patrons of the arts. This support has also helped to build a community that appreciates the arts.

This year we have again new artists who will present their work along with the veterans will show their new work. Many of our visitors include community members who visit our studios each year to see new works and continue the valuable conversations about our continuing art practices. New this year is a focus on community partnerships: each group will hold their Preview Exhibition in a new community location and will be working closely with their respective communities to build out-reach connections.
