Atsuko Yoshimura
ABOUT Atsuko
I am a ceramic artist working with porcelain and stoneware. I am drawn to quiet transformation expressed through form, light, and surface. Using the potter’s wheel as a starting point, I cut, carve, and reassemble each piece to explore cycles of life, change, and renewal. I grew up in Japan and moved to Canada in 1996. I studied ceramics in both countries, completing the Fine Arts program at Langara College and earning a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. My work is shaped by Japanese sensibility and influenced by the natural and cultural diversity of the West Coast. I am particularly interested in the qualities of clay and porcelain, their strength and fragility, and how light interacts with their surfaces. Through calm, restrained forms, I seek to create pieces that carry quiet vitality and a sense of impermanence.
